Dear Amandla Supporter,

It’s hard to know where 2017 went. It seemed to come and go so quickly! But thanks to your partnership on this journey, it’s been a great year for Philippi. Amandla has strengthened relationships with our local network and has made some special friends abroad who are joining us in our mission supporting Philippi’s youth. So as we thank you for your generous support this year, we’re so excited for 2018 has in store!

Dance for a Chance

We’re also excited to welcome Susi Bayer from Berlin, Germany to lead Dance for a Chance. She’ll be working on her bachelor’s thesis on the impact of dance on social work and leading a dance class. We’re eagerly anticipating her arrival.

Check out the teaser for how she’ll be documenting her time with us here.

Yale Alumni Service Corps

The Yale Alumni Service Corps (YASC) is bringing 100 volunteers to Philippi in late July 2018. They’ll be fanning out across the community to work on Amandla projects and get to know our youth. We know that great new friendships will be formed. Register here if you’d like to come work with us.

Positive Action for Children Fund

It’s been through the generous support of the Positive Action for Children Fund (PACF) and IvyWise, Inc that we were able to open our Adolescent and Youth-Friendly Space to fight HIV. We were excited to welcome the PACF board a few weeks ago.

The board heard directly from the youth about how they’re being empowered to to take charge of their sexual health. The tour was led by Khanyisa who had previously dropped out of school after having her baby. They got to hear how our project enabled her to go back to school and change the course of her life. They also got to experience her superior selfie skills. Thank you, PACF and IvyWise!
