The big day – appearance MBA-World-Summit

“I worked with the children of Philippi for nearly two months. Based on the principle of children’s rights I arranged workshops and conversations for the children to bring out their dreams, wishes and fears to arrange a performance together. The story of the performance is about two brothers who happily live in a Township. However, they want to see more of the world and so they start their journey. They visit new worlds, worlds that they have never seen before. In every one of these worlds the children have rights, like the right to play, the right to rest or the right to be in nature. In all of these worlds the children need to be protected by their role models like for example the security guards. The necessity of rain, that the community currently faces, is portrayed symbolically, to protect the children of the dangerous fire.

Let’s dive deep into the children’s thoughts together and enjoy the performance.”

And then it already began. Music is starting to play. A piece of the DJ “Brennmeister” from Munich. All children come to the stage and dance their first dance. A dance that the children of the “Grundschule am Hohen Feld” in Berlin had created themselves several months before. Full concentration, rhythmically perfect, the children are fully focused. This focus is being maintained throughout the whole piece. A dangerous “train” – danced by two rows of children to the song “Behind the Stars” (Pantha du Prince) – comes on stage and is stopped by the four strong security guards, so that the cheerfully relieved children can continue their games.

Then the journey continues, musically accompanied by the live music of Buck Roger and Laura. All of a sudden a fire breaks out – musically accompanied by “Alba” (Gaia Waves) – that is put out by the traditional rain dance. At the end of the performance the children comfortably fall asleep to the sounds of “Erase” (Native Young) and are affectionately awoken by about 10 MBA-students from the audience and are animated to dance.
Then all of a sudden EVERYONE stands on stage. 150 MBA-students, 60 children and adolescents and all those who helped bring the performance to life. Everyone cheers, dances, sings, laughs and celebrates the moment.

Epic! Unique! Spontaneous!
And a great moment for the kids. We are all here, we all look at them, we are with them. They are valuable, they have earned the protective hands of us adults.

The children have done their job well. They have practiced, they have sweated, they have made every imaginable effort. The children stood on stage in front of a very special and decisive audience. They have done their best to entertain people and to create the “highlight of the MBA-Summit”. The feedback of the audience was great. The feedback arrived exactly where it should and made my self confidence grow. The feedback gave me new hope for the children of the Townships.

But now, words have to become deeds.

Now it is on YOU to support the children that have given you such a special moment. You are responsible. You can make a difference. YOU can support the child that you danced with on stage.
