The “100for100” program is about ensuring that Philippi’s students have the support they need to stay in school. We’re aiming for 100% of students in our community!
THE TASK IS HUGE – BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE
• Like many poor communities in South Africa, Philippi has a school dropout rate of over 50%
• For every 10 students who enter the system in Philippi, only 2 will qualify for university
• Youth unemployment is over 70%
It’s no wonder many students struggle just to get to school, only to lose hope and drop out.
WHY A MONTHLY GIFT?
The challenges Philippi’s students face don’t start and stop at the schoolhouse gates. It’s vital that Amandla is able to work with them year-round so that no one falls through the cracks.
$100 helps one of our mentors get practical training to find permanent employment
$250 supports peer mentoring for one week
$350 supports one school’s “Passport to Philippi,” RAP’s student competition that encourages reading and positive after-school activity.
